How long have you been working for Damen?
“In 2008, I was hired by Damen Schelde Marine Services (DSMS) as Area Sales Manager by the then managing director Carel Flipse. After several sales positions, I was appointed director in Singapore in 2013. That meant a lot of travelling back and forth, because I was also responsible for international sales in Vlissingen. That was a great time and in 2015, it got even better when I also became director in Vlissingen.”

What does your position involve?
“What many people don’t know is that I am director of three companies: Damen Schelde Marine Services (DSMS) in Vlissingen, DSMS Singapore, and Maritime Logistics (ML) in Vlissingen. DSMS is the first contact for the client on technical and commercial matters. We are the most reliable, independent supplier of high-quality marine diesel engine parts and we stock just about all parts that are subject to wear and tear. Maritime Logistics handles the entire logistics, from product purchase and quality control to storage/transshipment and on-board delivery. For all three companies, I am the person ultimately responsible, which makes for a fun, challenging mix of work.”

What do you enjoy most about your work?
“The international character of the job. We work in about 60 countries, and we have about 10 agents representing DSMS. I love making plans, implementing them and making them succeed; even if not everything always works out. The high degree of self-management and result-oriented work suits me and our organisation well. I get to be an entrepreneur at a large multinational company.”

What can we wake you up at night for?
“I like and enjoy lots of things, but actually I prefer that you don’t wake me up for anything. Then I can sleep well and use all my time and energy during the day.”

What are your hidden talents or special hobbies?
“I don’t really have any hidden talents. But besides working, sports and other hobbies, I do spend every week in the garden. Apart from that, we try to do as many fun things as possible with the family.”
