Damen Naval’s ASWF team took part in the Harbour Run Rotterdam on Sunday 6 October. The team of 20 colleagues took part in the race through the harbour area, where they had to overcome a series of obstacles. Participants could choose between a 6-kilometre or a 10-kilometre course, overcoming a maximum of 28 obstacles. They made their way under port cranes, past container walls, immersing themselves in the unique atmosphere of one of the largest ports in the world.
The event was a fun team-building event for the people of the Anti-Submarine Warfare frigate project, says QA Manager Stan Haag who, together with Project Secretary Aninja de Blaeij, was the initiator for the Damen participation in the run. “It was a great activity to boost team spirit in the ASWF project. We work in both Vlissingen and Schiedam. The Harbour Run was organised on the grounds of what used to be the Rotterdamse Droogdok Maatschappij (RDM), literally across the water from Schiedam. People from both Vlissingen and Schiedam took part, which brought the Vlissingen world a little closer to the team in Schiedam again.”
The Damen participants trained fanatically in the weeks leading up to the event. Every Tuesday there were boot camp training sessions in Vlissingen and every Thursday they were held in Schiedam. Stan: “There is a lot of enthusiasm to continue, so if any colleagues still want to join us, please sign up and participate (for free)!”
