The Maritime Herring Party is an annual networking event organised by the North Sea Port Promotion Council and the Lions Club Vlissingen. This year, some 550 guests attended, and money was raised for charities in the Netherlands and Belgium. Besides the auction of the symbolic first barrel of herring, guests could participate in a lottery for various artworks. The proceeds were distributed the same evening to Kika Netherlands and KickCancer Flanders. There was also a contribution to various local charities chosen by the Vlissingen Lions Club.

On Tuesday 2 July, together with Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen Managing Director Michiel de Vlieger and Damen Yachting Commercial Executive Jan van Hogerwou, Roland received the first barrel, and the fresh herring was enjoyed. β€œIt was very tasty herring,” judged Roland. β€œI thought it was a nice way to support some important charities together with the colleagues from Yachting and Shiprepair, and it was nice to be able to share the herring with colleagues.”
