Damen Naval has signed a Combat Spares contract worth €1.5 million with the Indonesian Navy. The contract covers the supply of spare parts for the two Indonesian PKR frigates of the Raden Eddy Martadinata (REM) class.
After the Netherlands, Indonesia has the second largest fleet of Damen Naval vessels, four Diponegoro-class SIGMA 9113 corvettes and two Raden Eddy Martadinata (REM) class SIGMA 10514 PKR frigates. In recent months, there has been intensive cooperation between Damen Naval’s Commercial and Services departments with the aim of potential service contracts and future newbuilds for the Indonesian Navy. The two departments are active in Indonesia to help the Indonesian Navy with maintenance of the SIGMAs, but also to supply spare parts. Thus, it was discovered that there was a need from the Indonesian Ministry of Defence (MoD) to procure combat spares from different suppliers for the two PKR frigates.
“The close cooperation between the Commercial and Services departments on the one hand and the Indonesian Navy on the other is a great example of how account management and customer intimacy can be successful, exactly as we envisaged during the Time for Change process,” says Damen Naval Commercial Manager Patrick van der Heiden, who signed the contract in Jakarta on 21 March.
The contract is the result of intensive cooperation between Patrick and Hylke Bosma, Account Manager Services for Indonesia, with the support of Yohanes Andrian, from the Damen Naval office in Jakarta. They play a crucial role in maintaining relations with the Indonesian MoD and Navy.
In the weeks leading up to the contract signing, a significant purchase order (PO) was also secured from the Indonesian Navy for required spare parts for the SIGMA frigate KRI Raden Eddy Martadinata. This frigate will participate in the major maritime exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC), to be held in the Pacific in June and July.
“The contract demonstrates the excellent relationship between Damen Naval and the Indonesian Navy and this provides plenty of opportunities on which we are actively seeking to capitalise,” Patrick explains. “Moreover, it is an excellent example of our ambition to further grow the Services division in the coming years.”
