Damen Naval recently welcomed a special delegation from the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF). The Japanese Defence Attaché Colonel Tanimura Yuya, Director of Ship Systems Planning Division Captain Tatsuro Yoshida, Commander to the Logistic System Project Team Yoshida Yuichi, and TFD Global CEO Allan Goody all visited the headquarters in Vlissingen.
“The visit provided a unique opportunity to learn about Damen Naval’s expertise,” says Dan Moerdijk, Senior Design Engineer ILS who acted as one of the hosts on behalf of Damen Naval. The day started with a welcome by Ric Dekkers, who took the delegation through Damen Naval’s history, current projects and plans for the future.
Dan gave a presentation on the innovations in maritime logistics and Damen Naval’s progressive approach to data. “JMSDF is interested in our expertise in Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and data standardisation. My presentation illustrated how, in terms of data exchange, Damen Naval is a crucial bridge between the different links of the maritime supply chain and its customers.”

This was followed by a presentation about the A2M (Autonomous Asset Management) Solution developed by Damen Naval together with Ilias Solutions. “A2M generated interest among the JMSDF, as it offers a new dimension of capabilities that the JMSDF has not encountered before,” Dan explains. “A2M is a software for digitally managing maintenance on board military ships without the need for a shore connection. Once the shore connection is possible, data can be exchanged. The software is already ready to use advanced algorithms to use ship data to detect and even predict required maintenance.”
It was a successful day where a lot of valuable information was exchanged, Dan says. “The visit came about as a result of our strategic partnership with ILIAS Solutions. It was an inspiring experience.”
