Damen Schelde Marine Services has scored a repeat three-year contract with Spanish energy company Endesa for the supply of engine and generator parts to power stations on the Canary Islands. The contract represents the continuation of the long-term relationship between DSMS and Endesa; the two companies have been working together since 2008.

Endesa manages and maintains the electricity grid and supply on the Canary Islands of Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro. A proportion of the electricity is generated by diesel-fuelled power stations; DSMS has been contracted to supply the parts for these power stations.

“We heard back from Endesa toward the end of June that our tender had been accepted. And, at this stage, this is all we know. The full details of the contract will be defined at a later date,” says Remy Quist, DSMS Sales and Marketing Manager. “Needless to say, we are happy to be continuing our relationship with this long-term client.”
The broad scope of the contract is for parts for six Sulzer 9RTA76 two-stroke engines and two DEUTZ V16M628 four-stroke engines. “These engines are getting quite old so sometimes it can be a challenge to source the parts. However, we have the network and experience to support our client – looking for solutions like this is what we do best.”

Unfortunately for the DSMS sales team, the contract did not require a trip to the sunny climes of the Canary Islands. “I am afraid not,” smiles Remy. “The process of a repeat contract is handled by us here in Vlissingen. However, we will be organising a visit to Endesa’s head office in Madrid during the MTB purchasing in autumn this year.”
