The Vlissingen Shipbuilding History Foundation, which operates the museum, has started a fundraising campaign to buy the building to guarantee the survival of the museum. These funds were already owned by the foundation.
In an advertisement in this edition of Schelde Schakels, the foundation is calling on people “who have a warm heart for the museum” to donate some money. A total of €47,850 has been raised so far.
The Museum Scheldewerf gives an impression of the rich history of the De Schelde shipyard. Its collection consists of objects, photos and documentation, and the museum provides media presentations. The Oude Verbandkamer building in which it is located was built in 1918 as a first aid room for De Schelde employees. As such, it was the first occupational health service in the Netherlands.
