Name: Sander Reijnhoudt
Age: 35
Job title: Service Desk Coordinator, Telecom & Conference
How long have you been working for Damen?
I started working for Damen in December 2010, so it’s already been 12 years. It is the first full-time job I was offered. Before that, I did an internship at what was then the ROC Zeeland and at the HZ in Vlissingen. At the HZ, I was about to join the Audio Visual department after my traineeship, but just in time, a vacancy came up for the ICT helpdesk at DSNS. Our helpdesk employs first-line and second-line staff. The first-line employees first deal with the incoming incidents by accepting and registering them. If they cannot be solved immediately, they are transferred to the second-line helpdesk employees. I started in the second line where I gained a lot of experience. My colleague Rob Leenhouts, who was in the first line, needed some more hands due to the growth of the company. I found that a nice challenge.
What does your job involve?
Years of experience in that function gave me my most recent challenge: Service Desk Coordinator. The ICT department is divided into teams with their own expertise and a corresponding coordinator. As coordinator, I ensure, among other things, that the number of reports stays low. I also supervise the colleagues and help them where necessary. All questions and requests that come into the Helpdesk have to end up in the right place with the colleagues with the right expertise. This is what makes this challenge great: the environment we manage is very complex.
I also find smartphone technology very interesting and so I started managing it together with Jan Dekker (a well-known name in the company). I am also responsible for the equipment in the conference rooms.
What do you like most about your job?
The contact with the users and the diversity of the work. No two days are the same! What I like most is being close to the users; making sure that someone leaves the reception desk with a smile is very satisfying.
Do you have any hidden talents or special hobbies?
I don’t have any special hobbies or talents, although, very cliché for an ICT person, I love gaming. I am often up for a game of Call of Duty.
What can we wake you up for at night?
Pizza! As an ex-pizza delivery boy, this is really my favourite, but only from a real Italian restaurant.
This or that?
Beach holiday/City trip
On the beach with my family, preferably at a campsite.
Book/Movie
I have never read books, just give me a nice movie.
Watching sports/Doing sports
I’d rather go cycling through beautiful Walcheren.
Sea/Forest
Walking or cycling through the woods.
Car/Bike
The previous two answers already give this away.
