How long have you been working for Damen?
“Since January 2024, so I’m still fresh off the press!”
What does your job entail?
“I am responsible for recruiting new employees for Damen Shiprepair Vlissingen (DSV) and one day a week I work in Schiedam for Damen Shiprepair Rotterdam (DSR) and Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DS&C). My responsibilities include improving the awareness of DSV, as we are often confused with Damen Naval and Damen Yachting. For instance, to increase our brand awareness, I am involved in advertising, organising company visits for students/scholars and participating in open days of schools in the region, such as Scalda and the HZ. In this way, we try to get young people enthusiastic about the maritime technology sector and so choose to follow, for example, a vocational training course or (graduation) internship with us.”

What do you like best about your work?
“What I like most is the freedom and space I get to shape this job. For example, if I have an idea for an advertisement/sponsor request, it is acted upon. That makes me feel part of the organisation and able to contribute. A few weeks ago, for instance, we posted our vacancies on the advertising mast along the A58: that’s super cool! When a new vacancy comes out, I work with a different colleague from the department in question every time. That way I get to know my colleagues better, and it is a challenge to fill a vacancy every time.”
“I also like the variation between different vacancies and locations. In Rotterdam they have different functions than in Vlissingen and a different work ethic. Nevertheless, I am always glad when I am back in the familiar surroundings of Vlissingen, since I live here too.”
What can we wake you up for at night?
“Preferably for nothing, but for a trip to a beautiful destination I would get out of bed. That could be a city trip in Europe, but I wouldn’t say ‘no’ to a safari in Africa either!”

“I think as someone who likes fun and a laugh but is also up for a good conversation and is always there for others.”

Watching sports/Practicing sports
Playing sports is definitely among my hobbies. I also always enjoy trying new sports and challenging myself. Since I have been doing strength training for years, I recently joined CrossFit.
